Buy Police Impounded Cars - Talk Dollars - What Will it Cost Me?

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Danny_Rotar]Danny Rotar

The reason most people buy police impounded cars is because of the price.  You can often pick one up for a lot less than you would pay anywhere else.  How much less in dollars will vary.

Police impounded car auctions come up regularly in almost all States so that no matter where you live in the US there is bound to be one not too far from where you live.  And by police impounded, it might be the federal police, or the county police, or even the local sheriff department that are selling these vehicles.  At various times these bodies all have seized or surplus vehicles for auction.  Sometimes these auction sales are online and sometimes you need to be there in person, but either way there will be an opportunity to view the car before hand.

Prices vary hugely according to make, condition, mileage and circumstances but you will often pay way under what you would pay at a regular car lot.

In this first half of 2009 I've seen prices such as:

1986 Honda Prelude with 137,000 miles on the clock going for $175

Plenty of models from the 1990's selling for under one thousand dollars.  For example:

1992 Honda Accord, 214,000 miles - $650

1992 Chevrolet Blazer, 118,000 - $650

1997 Dodge Intrepid, 164,000 miles - $750

If you're looking for something more up-to-date, then I've seen:

2002 Buick Century, 211,000 miles - $550

2005 Nissan Sentra - $5,200

Of course, the makes and models of the cars changes all the time.  Those are just a few examples of prices on one particular day.

As you can see, the prices jump around quite a bit.  You have to view the car and really see what sort of condition it is in.  Some vehicles are only suitable for cannibalizing for spare parts while others are fantastic buys.

There are some great deals to be made when you buy police impounded cars but you have to know where to find the auctions. This is usually the hardest part of it for most people because your local paper only advertises the sales in your immediate area. I don't mind traveling a little further if I know there is a good selection of suitable cars coming up. [http://www.findrepocars.com]This site will help you track those auctions down.
